Example 2 - Set up a voting line on two numbers
user requirements
I would like to set up and run a voting line on two numbers. This needs to
be on a 10p per call tariff as I would like to earn revenue from my voting lines.
step-by-step set-up instructions
This example is based on the Callagenix Information
Line service.
It uses Call Counters to keep track of
how many callers have called beween specific times.
- From the Services menu, create a service of type information line
- call it something like Voting Line 1.
- Edit the prompts for the information line to say the message you wish to
provide on Voting Line 1.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the second line - call it something like Voting
Line 2.
- From the Accessories menu create two call counters. Call these Line 1
Votes and Line 2 Votes. If you only need your voting lines to be
open between certain dates and times then edit the settings for the counters
to reflect this (i.e. set the Date and Time filter).
- Edit the Call answer properties of each of the services and select
the relevant call counter to increment when calls are received (i.e. select
Line 1 Votes against Voting Line 1 and Line 2 Votes for
Voting Line 2). Whilst in this section you should also check that the
other settings are as you require. Unless you need to keep the telephone numbers
of your callers you should turn off the option to Add to Callers, otherwise
each individual callers details will be saved.
- In the case of voting lines it is normal to complete the call and terminate
as soon as possible in order to clear resources for the next call. You can
limit the length of the call to automatically terminate after a set number
of seconds by changing the Maximum call time setting from the Call
End properties of each service. As a general rule 8 - 12 seconds is considered
appropriate prior to terminating the call.
- You should now be in a position to test your services on each of the two
test numbers and PINs. Amend the prompts and settings and retest your services
as much as you wish until you are satisied with the result.
- Now view the section on Making your Service live
- this will take you through how to choose your premium rate number, buy an
operating voucher and attach your numbers to your services.
