about numbers

Q. What is a Freephone number?
A. A Freephone number is where the caller pays nothing and the person being called (whoever owns the number) pays ALL the call charges. They normally begin with either 0800 or 0500. Back to top

Q. What is a Local Rate number?
A. A Local Rate number is where the caller pays their local rate charge (regardless of where they are situated in the UK) and the person being called (whoever owns the number) pays for the balance of any call charges. They normally begin with 0845. Back to top

Q. What is a National Rate number?
A. A National Rate number is where the caller pays their national rate charge (regardless of where they are situated in the UK) and the person being called (whoever owns the number) pays nothing to the cost of the calls. They normally begin with 0870. Back to top

Q. What is a Premium Rate number?
A. A Premium Rate number is really a method of payment for small-value services. The caller pays a charge of between 10p per minute to £1.50 per minute (regardless of where they are situated in the UK. Dependent upon the type of service they are calling) the person being called (whoever owns the number) gets paid a percentage of the revenues generated by that number. They normally begin with 09XX and are dependent on their value. The services are regulated by ICSIS and some require their prior ap proval. Back to top

Q. What are Personal numbers or Follow-me numbers?
A. Personal numbers are phone numbers that relate to people - not buildings or particular mobile phones. You can use them to divert to calls to other numbers but they are very expensive for the caller. There are three types of numbers normally beginning with a 0701, 0702 or 0705 and attract a charge for the caller from 10p per minute to over 37.5p per minute. Back to top

Q. Why do Callagenix not use Personal Numbers?
A. Callagenix looked very closely at using Personal Numbers for their services but rejected them because of the very expensive call costs associated in calling them. The Idea behind personal numbers is that they replace your home and mobile numbers so all your friends and family use one number. Most people indicated that their friends and family (or clients) are highly unlikely to use them, especially with call charges costing as much as 37.5p per minute. Callagenix offers greater functionality and capabilities than the divert functions Personal Numbers offer, and we prefer to use the more comfortable Freephone, National and Local rate numbers. Q. Do I own the telephone number?
A. No. You do not own the numbers; once selected and confirmed the number is added to your Account's number list it remains there for as long as you use it and have funds in your account. For example, if you check your terms and conditions from BT, you will find your home number is rented. Back to top
