making a service live

This section describes how to make a service live, meaning that you have created a service or service(s) that you have tested, are basically happy with and now wish to use. Basically, to make a service live you need to attach the service to a real telephone number, i.e. a telephone number that does not require a PIN to be entered, that when dialled answers and runs your service.

The 3 steps outlined below, describe how to achieve this by the purchase of operating voucher, how to get a number and how to attach the number to your service.

1. Check Operating Balance is adequate.

2. Get a new telephone number.

3. Attach service to new telephone number.


1. Check Operating Balance is adequate.

For your service to run you should have sufficient funds in your operating balance to cover the costs of the service rental and any call charges you may incurr. These costs start to become chargeable when your service is attached to a real telephone number. How do I know what sufficient funds are?

To check the Operating Balance, select Account Details > Finnancial Info or Home from the left hand menu and look at the figure next to the Operating Balance label.

To add funds to your Operating balance, you need to purchase an Operating Voucher, to do this select Account Details > Add Funds and follow the instructions or for more information read the help section Operating Vouchers.

2. Get a new telephone number.

Getting a telephone number is necessary to allow you to access your telephone services, the types of numbers available are wide and varied, see Number Types for a list. If you wish to run the service on your existing number then you may still require a Callagenix number of some sort, but you will need to either:

Once the type of number required is known you can proceed with getting a new telephone number.

To Get a Telephone Number go to the Numbers menu and select Get a new number. Select the number type you wish to get and follow the remaining steps. More info

To Check the number go to the Numbers menu, select Number List, the list displayed should include the selected number.

3. Attach service to new telephone number.

Once you have your number you can select it and Attach it to any of your services.

The Attach Service function is on the Number details page this can be accessed by selecting Numbers, Number List and then the actual number. This will display the number details screen and the Attach service option. This optionis presented to you as as button on the get a new number confirmation page from step 2.

Once displayed the Attach service page lists all the available service and request you select one service to attach the number to, once confirmed the number can be called and the service will run.

What is a sufficient or adequate Operating Balance.

What is a sufficient or adequate Operating Balance is dependent on the type of the number acquired, the attached service, the volume of calls and how frequently you expect to manage your account.

Two points that will help are:

1. A minimum balance of 20 pounds is required before, you can get a new number. The number does not cost you the 20 pounds, we just view this as a way to avoid the complication of accounts getting a number but not having funds for the service rental and call charges.

2. The Cost Calculator, this gives a good idea of the costs that may be involved in running a service, applying call volumes to the call charges will help making a judgement.

Lastly, the best way is to try it and the system will let you know when the Operating Balance gets low, or runs out. As long as you respond promptly to any warnings then you will not encounter any problems.
